JCSP Library Book Clubs

The Beaufort College JCSP Library runs a number of bookclubs each year. Our bookclubs are after school once a month. We offer our young people the opportunity to select books they would like to read, to share their ideas, opinions and reflections over tea and cake.

Switched by Amanda Hocking has been the stand out choice for our book club this year with the majority of members loving this book. Be warned - its a cliff hanger. Torn & Ascend are the other ttitles in this trilogy.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon was a really pleasant surprise to most of our group members with most commenting on what a great insight the main character, Christopher gave us into the world of Aspergers Syndrome. The novel has been adapted for the stage and The Kindred Spirits look forward to our trip to the Bord Gais Energy Theatre later this year.

Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery is a timeless classic loved by generations of girls and happens to be a favourite of many of the teaching staff in Beaufort College. Some of the club members struggled with the flowery language and were a little impatient with Anne at times but Matthew's character was a big hit!

Anne Frank's autobiography was the only nonfiction choice by our book club this year, a book that many members had on their "must read" list. Views were mixed on the story, with the diary style not to some tastes but on the whole the tragic reality of Anne's short life was a stark reminder to all of us about the horrors of war.
