Beaufort College has a prefect system unlike any other currently running in Ireland. Students wanted to have a say in how we create the conditions for teaching and learning when we are in school together. The strength of the programme lies in creating a platform that allows young people share in the leadership of the school and to explore what it is to be a role model within the school environment. Students are given a wonderful learning space for personal development within a supported system. The aims of the programme are to develop the character and confidence of students through giving them leadership roles in the day-to-day running of the school and to teach the values that are important to our school community.
In 2015 our Prefects were welcomed to Áras an Uachtaráin.
Team building and motivation are integral to the programme. Guest speakers, regular team meetings and team building trips are part of the Prefect experience.
Paul McNeive, motivational speaker, writer and business man, spent some quality time with Beaufort College Prefects. The students listened to how Paul had overcome incredible challenges in his life through taking "small steps" an idea that lead him to write a book sharing his experiences. Paul's book Small Steps is available in the school library.
